How to Choose the Right Spindleless Veneer Peeling Machine?
Choosing the right spindleless veneer peeling machine starts with three key factors: log species, required veneer size and pattern, and production capacity.
Different wood densities require different peeling configurations, while veneer dimensions depend on log size, timber species and the plywood lay-up process. Production capacity then determines whether a 1-to-1 or higher-output 1-to-2 peeling line is more suitable.
By confirming these requirements first, you can select a veneer peeling solution that better matches your raw material and plywood production process.
Log Types & Species
Spindleless veneer peeling machines are mainly used for softwood logs and medium-to-high density logs. Machine selection should therefore begin with the hardness and density of the timber being processed.
Softwood Logs
Softwood logs with relatively lower hardness and density are commonly processed by standard spindleless veneer peeling machines.
Typical species shown in the PRS selection guide include: Albasia · Falcata · Pine · Poplar · Spruce
Medium & Higher Density Logs
For denser timber, the cutting structure and machine configuration need to provide more stable pressure and peeling performance.
Typical species include: Birch · Eucalyptus · Beech · Rubber Wood · Maple · Meranti
Match Machine Structure to Wood Density
Softer logs can generally use conventional spindleless peeling configurations, while harder logs may require a machine structure designed for stronger pressure control and more stable cutting.
Confirm Your Wood Before Selection
Before machine selection, provide the wood species, log diameter and log length so that the peeling configuration can be matched to the raw material.

Veneer Size & Pattern
Veneer dimensions vary according to log diameter, timber species and plywood lay-up processes. The PRS selection guide presents four commonly used veneer size and grain-direction combinations.
| Veneer Pattern | Standard Size | Grain Direction | Typical Use |
| Long Grain Veneer | 8 × 4 ft | Grain runs along the long direction | Full-size plywood veneer |
| Long Grain Veneer | 4 × 2 ft | Grain runs along the long direction | Smaller veneer sheets |
| Short Grain Veneer | 4 × 4 ft | Grain runs across the sheet | Cross-layer plywood structure |
| Short Grain Veneer | 4 × 8 ft | Grain runs across the sheet | Full-size cross-grain veneer |

How to Select Veneer Size
The required veneer format should be determined by:
Log Diameter
The available log diameter affects the peelable veneer dimensions.
Timber Species
Different wood species can influence cutting behavior and suitable veneer specifications.
Plywood Lay-up Process
Long-grain and short-grain veneers are selected according to the required plywood layer structure.
Capacity & Production Line Configuration
Production capacity is another key factor when choosing a spindleless veneer peeling system. The PRS selection guide mainly presents 1-to-1 and 1-to-2 production line configurations.

1-to-1 Automatic Veneer Peeling Line
A 1-to-1 production line uses one log rounding debarker machine together with one spindleless veneer peeling machine. This is the most common basic configuration for an automatic spindleless veneer peeling line.
Reference Capacity: 4ft Log: 3 CBM/hour & 8ft Log: 6 CBM/hour
Typical Process: Log Loading → Log Debarking → Roller Transfer → Auto Log Feeding → Veneer Peeling → Veneer Stacking
1-to-2 Automatic Veneer Peeling Line
For higher production requirements, one log rounding machine can feed two spindleless rotary lathes, creating a 1-to-2 production line. This configuration increases overall veneer peeling capacity and is becoming increasingly popular for higher-output production.
Reference Capacity: 4ft Log: 6 CBM/hour & 8ft Log: 10 CBM/hour
To further improve automation, an automatic log cross-cut saw can be added before the peeling process.

Automatic Line with Log Length Sizing
For factories that need more complete upstream log preparation, the veneer peeling line can also be equipped with a log length sizing section before debarking and peeling.
This layout connects log sizing with downstream debarking, feeding, peeling and veneer stacking equipment to create a more integrated production process.
Veneer Size & Processing Requirements
Veneer dimensions and cutting requirements should be matched with log size, timber species and the downstream plywood lay-up process.
4ft or 8ft Veneer
4ft machines are available for logs up to approximately 1300 mm, while 8ft machines support logs up to approximately 2600 mm.
Long Grain or Short Grain
Veneer grain direction should match the plywood lay-up structure. Long-grain and short-grain veneers can be arranged in alternating directions according to the required panel structure.
Core Veneer Thickness
Standard PRS spindleless configurations cover approximately 1–4 mm veneer, while specialized equipment is available for 5 mm thick core veneer production.

Capacity & Production Line Configuration
PRS provides both 4ft and 8ft automatic spindleless veneer peeling lines. The current automatic line includes log feeding, debarking, log transfer, secondary feeding, spindleless veneer peeling and veneer stacking.
| Line Configuration | Main Equipment | Reference Capacity | Best For |
| 4ft Automatic Line | Debarker + Peeling Machine + Stacker | 50 m³ / 10 h | Short-log veneer production |
| 8ft Automatic Line | Debarker + Peeling Machine + Stacker | 100 m³ / 10 h | Full-size veneer production |
| 1 Debarker + 2 Peelers | Shared Debarking + Dual Peeling | Higher-output setup | Larger veneer factories |
| 4ft + 8ft Combined Line | 4ft & 8ft Peeling Equipment | Project-based | Mixed log sizes |
| Line with Log Sizer | Log Sizing + Automatic Peeling | Project-based | Higher automation |

Choose the Right Veneer Peeling Machine

Standard Spindleless Machine
For conventional core veneer production with 4ft and 8ft configurations. Linear guide rails, a strong blade seat and precision feeding components support stable veneer cutting.

Nose Bar & Gear Roller
The nose bar applies pressure close to the cutting area while gear rollers stabilize the log, helping reduce movement and improve veneer thickness uniformity and flatness.

5mm Thick Core Veneer
Designed for thicker plywood core veneer. PRS offers 4ft and 8ft configurations with standard 1–4 mm production and specialized capability for veneer up to 5 mm.

Economic Model
This is the economy‑version featuring high cost‑effectiveness. It is primarily applicable to soft‑timber species with low density, including poplar and birch. We suggest the rotary‑cut peeling thickness to be within 1.1‑2.2 mm.
